Subject: CW Training Net

The PSK31/Digital Net is planning to begin a net here on CQ100 for training in CW. It will begin with learning the Morse Code in a format recommended by the ARRL and provide practice for those learning at speeds from 3 WPM and advancing upward.
We would like to get feedback, comments and suggestions from the CQ100 users about such a net. The net would be open to all users of CQ100 interested in learning Morse Code and also for those users who just want to brush up on procedures and CW speed.

Comments are welcome

Hi Tim

Having just downloaded the free trial of CQ100, I think it would be a great idea go have a CW net as this is one of my main areas of interest. I noticed this post was made in March 2007, is the net up and running?

Hi Janet,

Glad to see you on CQ100. The message about the CW net was just posted a day or two ago here. Our plans are this, the CW TRAINING net is going to begin on August 8 at 7PM EDT (2300 UTC). This net is going to be for people who want to learn the morse code and will be running every night for 7 days. After that, our plans are to begin a SLOW SPEED CW net for the new comers to CW. That will be at 10 WPM or less till those newcomers get more use to CW and get their speed up.

Hope to see you as a regular on CQ100, also, if you are into the digital modes PSK, RTTY, ETC, check out the PSK21 Net that meets every Saturday morning at 1300 UTC on 14.070. They start with PSK mode, then move to voice up on 14.105.

The PSK/Digital Beacon on 14.075 is now experimenting with sending slow-speed CW practice files. At present the speed is 5 WPM. We will be increasing the speeds from time to time up to about 12 WPM, then we will start over at 5 WPM. The code practice is following the transmission in RTTY at this time. The practice file goes for about 18 minutes and is based on basic CW QSOs. Please let me know if you think this is of any help to those trying to learn CW.
