my subscription expired today.
Is it necessary however to cut me off in the middle of a QSO?
Have to seriously consider renewal
This was quite rude from your end, even for a canadian...

I'd be willing to bet that the account information and processing is automated. I doubt very much if there was anything meant personally as an affront towards you.

Of course it is fully automated so no rudness was intended.

It takes less than 1 minute to pay, then you are back on the air. There is no loss if you pay early, so why wait until the last minute. You can pay a day early, a week early a month early or even a year early without losing any paid time. It just like a magazine subscription.

The system actually gives you about 15 minutes of free time after you have expired.

Thanks for the reply.
There were NO 15 min grace as you say.

It might be better (and less annoying) to either
Send a reminder (which I was waiting for since I was not sure of the expiry date) or
2. on log-in display a reminder, which also can be automated.
