We have been talking about this issue around the office today. With only 3 or 4 of 800 users running into the problem. It has to be pretty rare. We beleive it is related to the sound card driver. Perhaps the generic windows sound card driver is being used instead of the manufacturer's driver. Perhaps the manufacturer's driver needs to be upgraded. Creative Labs (SoundBlaster) is notorious for needing driver upgrades. There some "accelerator" settings available under Windows Control Panel.

We have several computers working fine using SoundBlaster live with the driver version and and another computer using (2004/06/04).
