Subject: Non ham version

I've got a few folks interested in ham but, they think you have to get a bunch of gear before they can experience it.

It got me thinking, what if they could get a version of CQ100 that only receives. Since they can't transmit, they don't technically need a license. After all, they could buy gear and listen all they want.

They could be required to pay to get QSO-TV for a year like us. Still, they can't transmit without a license holder version.

Sounds like a great idea John :) Perhaps a receive only license at a reduced price. Good for the hobby and good for business too. I see no downside to it. If receive only was free then the downside would be all the bandwidth being used by non-paying users. But if there is a fee involved that argument is negated.

I think they should have the same 90 day trial and pay the full price to keep it and/or get QSO-TV. If they want the licensed version within their paid period, the payment should transfer.

Just and idea.

Sounds a good idea to get new blood into the hobbie as long as it was like a demo version where you could not transmit but only recieve and only be able to monitor a section of one band only to see how hams operated on it before trying to get a ham licence.

There is already one and a lot of hams use it. No license needed.
