have a look at your soundcard settings > recording > and look if you find an amplifier / +10/20 dB or similar expressions below the slider of the microphone . many soundcards have the possibility to add an amplifier by checking it .
In my case the level was too less anyway and so i built a little amplifier into the cable between the destop microphone and the soundcard . By this you can not only increase the level but also change the sound quality in case the microphone itself does not sound well .
Since I made that I got very good audio reports , worth to try it .
